About me
My name is Shaunessy Martin and I am a professional educator and lifelong learner. I have been immersed in the field of special needs support since I started working. My first jobs were working with children with special needs in day camps. I continued in the field by obtaining my college diploma in Educational Resources and Special Needs. I went on to further my education at the university level with a Bachelor in Applied Arts majoring in Disability Studies. I worked as a Director for a private tutoring centre where I put my knowledge to use everyday and gained expertise in the areas of academic evaluations, programming modifications, special education and so much more.
During this time I had three children and began a new journey when my middle son displayed symptoms known as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).My learning continued as I researched health and diet changes that would help my son feel better. I became aware of environmental changes that had the ability to alleviate symptoms. I read books, attended conferences and consulted professionals to find the best therapies to address social, academic and language difficulties.
I hold a passion that drives me to want to help others who find themselves in a similar situation and who need help finding the right approaches and tools. I want to share what I have learned over the years. I wish to be a resource to parents who are looking for a child-centered approach; whether it be conventional or not. I wish to build materials that are not readily available. I wish to share my work space and supplies to help bring down costs to others.
The name MOUNTAINS AND VALLEYS was my husband's idea. Our journey since those first days of our son's development regression has been exactly that- a road full of mountains and valleys. There are times when we feel like we are climbing a mountain (with a 60 pound pack!) and other times when we are hanging out in the valley enjoying the sun and life is easy.
Let us work together in this journey to help your child succeed.
